What's New in System 96®

Hydrangea Opal

Please welcome Hydrangea Opal, a vivid blue as bright and fresh as the garden favorite that inspired its name. New Hydrangea comes in as the lightest shade in our 230 Blue Opal series, followed by Medium Blue and then Dark Blue Opal.

Three Opals from Uroboros

Payne's Gray Opal, named for William Payne, the 18th century British water colorist who used the shade prolifically, is a complex hue that forges a new color direction for System 96 Opals.

Chambray Opal is a lighter version of Payne's Gray, widening our range of blue gray opals. The inherent delicacy of this classic color is perfect for shadows and clouds in compositions based on nature, yet it's still strong enough to create bold contrasts.

Apple Jade Opal, formerly available only in Thin, is now being produced in 3mm sheets! A slightly blue spring green, it fills a gap in the System 96 green opal range, and will be useful alongside just about any other green in our palette

Two Rod Colors

Kicking off what we expect to be an ongoing roll-out of new Rod colors this year, are Lemongrass Opal and Pewter Opal in 6mm diameter. Both are bold enough to hold up in dots and threads on beads, yet stylish enough to power up contemporary fused designs..

"Metallic" Frit

For the first time anywhere, this new product provides the precious metal shimmer of our popular Sheet Glass Gold and Silver Irids in a Frit form. It's quite a different look from our Rainbow Irid Frit. Metallic Frit looks best layered over dark colors or Black. Shown here is a closeup of Coarse Metallic Clear Frit over black.

Blue Topaz Transparent

Like the precious gem it's named for, our new transparent Blue Topaz is a gorgeous, rich Aqua hue that nestles perfectly between sister products, Sky Blue and Deep Aqua.

Because all three of these Blues contain Copper, they create lovely, delicate reactions when fused next to glasses formulated with Sulfur. In the piece featured in the new System 96 Project Guide, you can see the tinged outline where the three coppery Aqua sisters interact with shades of our Sulfur-containing Ambers. Works great with System 96 Red Reactive glasses, as well.

Two Shades of Opal Gray

New Celadon Opal

This lovely new System 96 Grayish-Green opalescent glass was inspired by the elegant Asian Celadon pottery of centuries past. Today, it provides glass fusers with a delicate, yet earthy color option.

Get Reactive with System 96!

Uroboros has introduced exciting new "Reactive Red" Transparent and Opal to the ever-expanding System 96 line. Chemistry in these glasses causes a reaction with copper, a colorant in many Blue and Green glasses. When a glass containing copper is fired on Reactive glass, a reddish color is produced, showing as a rim on the Opal Turquoise glass (lower right) but a complete transformation from Sky Blue to red (upper right).
